Porsche Leipzig secures the 2025 Automotive Lean Production Award in the OEM category for its lean, digital, and innovative manufacturing processes.

The Porsche plant in Leipzig has been awarded the prestigious Automotive Lean Production Award 2025 in the OEM category. Established in 2006 by consultancy Agamus Consult in cooperation with the specialist magazine Automobil Produktion, the award annually recognises manufacturing sites that excel in lean production and digital integration.

According to the jury, Porsche Leipzig stands out for its consistent application of lean principles, adoption of digital intelligence and use of innovative automation. This approach has enabled the plant to maintain exceptional quality while ensuring cost efficiency. One of its most remarkable achievements is the ability to produce three different powertrain types — petrol, hybrid and fully electric — in a mixed-model flow on a single assembly line. To achieve this, the plant redesigned key assembly stages, including the marriage of body and power unit, implementing autonomous transport systems and advanced robotics.

Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG, emphasised that flexibility and digital support in manufacturing are central to the company’s competitiveness and innovative strength. Gerd Rupp, Chairman of the Management Board of Porsche Leipzig GmbH, described the award as a recognition of the team’s collective effort and a motivation to keep improving.

This is not the first time the Leipzig plant has been honoured in the industry. In 2021, it received the Lean & Green Management Award for combining lean practices with sustainable solutions, and in 2023 it was named Factory of the Year by consulting firm Kearney. Today, the plant produces the Macan and Panamera model lines, while in the past it has also built the Cayenne and the legendary Carrera GT.

The award ceremony will take place on 25–26 November 2025 in Poznań, at the Volkswagen plant that won the OEM category last year. Traditionally, the Automotive Lean Production Congress features factory tours, presentations from the winners and in-depth discussions on the industry’s future, making it a key networking and knowledge-sharing platform in the European automotive sector.
