Audi R8 Le Mans winner showcased at gamescom 2025

Audi Tradition presents the 2002 Le Mans-winning R8 at gamescom 2025 in Cologne, alongside the Project Motor Racing game launch by GIANTS Software and Straight4 Studios.
This summer in Cologne, motorsport and gaming enthusiasts will be treated to a rare encounter with a legend. Audi Tradition is bringing the original Audi R8 prototype that won the 2002 24 Hours of Le Mans to gamescom 2025. The car, bearing starting number 1, will be on display from August 20 to 24 at the GIANTS Software booth (Hall 6, Stand B061), alongside the premiere of the racing simulation Project Motor Racing.
Developed by Straight4 Studios and published by GIANTS Software, the game is set to launch on November 25, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will feature over 70 licensed cars across ten classes, 27 tracks, and extensive modding capabilities with cross-platform support. For many racing fans, the highlight is the inclusion of the very same Audi R8 that, in 2002, driven by Frank Biela, Tom Kristensen, and Emanuele Pirro, secured the team’s third consecutive Le Mans victory – a rare achievement in the race’s history.
Visitors will have the chance to see the car in near-original condition – complete with the wear and dust of the race – and take it for a virtual spin. A time trial competition will crown the fastest driver with an exclusive prize. The GIANTS booth will also host stage shows, giveaways, and demonstrations of both Project Motor Racing and new Farming Simulator content.
Audi’s Le Mans journey began in 1999 with debut third- and fourth-place finishes, followed by a podium lockout in 2000 and a successful title defense in 2001. The 2002 win cemented the R8’s status as one of the most successful prototypes of its era. Those eager to delve deeper can visit the special exhibition “Audi in Le Mans. 24 Stunden am Limit” at the August Horch Museum in Zwickau, running until November 2, 2025, or explore the book “Audi at Le Mans” featuring 603 photos and illustrations.
