Lucid Reports Q1 2026 Production and Delivery Gap After Recall
Lucid reported Q1 2026 production and deliveries, revealing a gap caused by a Gravity recall and supplier issue. See what affected results and what comes next.
Nearly a month-long halt in deliveries of the new Lucid Gravity SUV has already shown up in the company’s quarterly results. In the first quarter of 2026, Lucid produced 5,500 vehicles but delivered only 3,093, with the gap driven by a 29-day suspension caused by a defect in second-row seats.
The issue went beyond a simple delay. It involved seat belt anchor welds that were found to be insufficient or incorrectly placed. The supplier had altered its manufacturing process without approval, leading to potential safety risks where seat belts might not perform properly in a crash, violating required safety standards.
As a result, Lucid recalled 4,476 Gravity vehicles built between late 2024 and mid-February 2026. The defect potentially affects the vast majority of those units. Fixes include reinforcing the structure or, in some cases, replacing the seats entirely.
The impact on deliveries was immediate. Vehicles continued to be produced, but they could not be handed over to customers until the issue was resolved. This left more than 2,400 vehicles in limbo and pushed deliveries down by about 42% compared to the previous quarter.
The situation is particularly significant given the role of the Gravity model. As Lucid’s first electric SUV, it is central to expanding the company’s reach beyond the Air sedan and into a broader segment, competing with models such as the Tesla Model X and Rivian R1S.
The company says the issue has now been addressed and has reaffirmed its annual production target of 25,000 to 27,000 vehicles. Attention now shifts to the upcoming earnings report on May 5, which will show how quickly Lucid can recover from the disruption and resume normal delivery momentum.
