Porsche delivers the first 911 Carrera 4 GTS Tribute to Transfagarasan, marking 50 years of Romania’s iconic road with a ten-car Sonderwunsch series.

The first example of the 911 Carrera 4 GTS “Tribute to Transfagarasan” has taken to the road, a Sonderwunsch special created to mark 50 years of Romania’s famed mountain pass. The car has been delivered to its Romanian owner and, fittingly, began its journey on the Transfagarasan itself, a roughly 90-kilometre route crossing the Fagaras Mountains between Muntenia and Transylvania.

The project traces back to 2024: the “road that touches the clouds” turned 50 in the same year the 911 Turbo celebrated its half-century. Porsche clubs from Romania and Moldova gathered about 110 cars and 200 guests for a commemorative drive, and that moment inspired Sonderwunsch, Style Porsche and future owners to co-create a run of ten “Tribute to Transfagarasan” cars.

Each car is a one-off configuration, yet the series shares thematic signatures: commemorative badging, Romanian flag accents and dedicated graphics in the cabin. The first completed example wears Paint to Sample Graphite Grey with wheel spokes in Guards Red and matching red rings around the headlights. A subtle “Tribute to Transfagarasan” decal appears on the doors, a “1 of 10” badge sits on the B-pillars, and thin blue-yellow-red lines highlight the rear grille slats.

The bespoke treatment continues inside: “Tribute to Transfagarasan” appears on illuminated door sills, is embroidered on headrests, embossed on the centre armrest, and applied to the passenger-side dashboard trim. The remaining nine cars are scheduled to be handed over at an event at the end of August.

Under the skin, the series is based on the latest 911 Carrera GTS with the T-Hybrid system and a newly developed 3.6-litre flat-six. According to Porsche, the Carrera 4 GTS Coupe sprints from 0–100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, reaches 312 km/h, and delivers a system output of 398 kW (541 PS) and 610 Nm, an increase of 45 kW over its predecessor. The concept targets lower CO₂ emissions and significantly less mass than typical plug-in hybrids, with only a 50-kilogram increase versus the previous model.

Sonderwunsch reinterprets the brand’s late-1970s programme, enabling deep personalisation and true one-off builds in partnership with customers, including Paint to Sample Plus, factory re-commissioning and restorations for older models. In Romania, the project resonates especially strongly: local representatives note the road’s global recognition among enthusiasts and anticipate seeing these rare 911s driven on the very route they honour.

In essence, “Tribute to Transfagarasan” ties a place to Porsche culture: an iconic road, two anniversaries and a focused individualisation effort converging in one series. The next chapter arrives with the end-of-August deliveries, likely adding another striking scene against the Carpathian switchbacks.
