Skoda presents a modern reinterpretation of the Felicia Fun pickup by designer Julien Petitseigneur, blending 1990s spirit with today’s Modern Solid style.

Skoda has revived memories of one of its most unconventional production cars from the late 1990s and reimagined it for today. The Felicia Fun, once a bold experiment, has now been digitally reinterpreted by designer Julien Petitseigneur as part of the Icons Get a Makeover series in the brand’s current Modern Solid design language.

The original Felicia Fun made its debut at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show and soon entered production at the Vrchlabí plant. Between 1995 and 2000, only 4,016 units were built, making it one of Skoda’s rarest modern models. Its hallmark was the sliding rear partition that opened space for two extra seats in the cargo bed, complemented by a canvas roof and a distinctive tailgate spoiler. With just 612 right-hand-drive cars delivered to the UK, it quickly became a collectors’ favorite.

Petitseigneur’s contemporary vision carries over the playful spirit but translates it into Modern Solid. The front end echoes the Vision 7S with the Tech-Deck Face grille and slim T-shaped headlights. At the rear, pink taillights and a retro LED light bar add a humorous nod to the 1990s. The same pink highlights appear in the logo, tinted windows, and wheel accents, contrasting with black bumpers and arches. True to the original identity, the body remains bright yellow.

The interior references the same decade with a full-width dashboard display showing retro video game graphics. Petitseigneur admits he relied on AI tools to experiment with directions before refining the concept by hand. The entire exercise took about two weeks and served as a personal side project rather than an official design study.

This reinterpretation is not intended as a production model but as a creative exercise. Still, it reflects the path Skoda is taking: the upcoming Vision O concept will continue to evolve the Modern Solid philosophy. In this light, the reborn Felicia Fun stands as a reminder that the brand’s history has always included cars built not only for utility but also for sheer enjoyment.
