DENZA Debuts in Europe with Z9GT and D9 DM-i by BYD
DENZA, backed by BYD, enters Europe with Z9GT and D9 DM-i. Explore specs, pricing, and rollout plans as the brand targets the premium EV segment.
DENZA has officially entered the European market, choosing Paris for its debut and introducing two flagship models — the Z9GT and D9 DM-i. This marks the brand’s first full-scale expansion beyond China and signals BYD’s push into Europe’s premium segment.
The premiere took place at the Palais Garnier on April 8, 2026. From this point, DENZA is positioned as a standalone premium brand within BYD, fully controlled by the Chinese group after Mercedes-Benz exited the joint venture in 2024. This shift завершed the transformation of DENZA into an independent global player.
The centerpiece of the launch is the Z9GT, an electric shooting brake aimed directly at the high-end European market. In its electric version, it delivers up to 850 kW (1,156 hp), accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, and offers around 600 km WLTP range. Pricing in Europe starts at approximately €115,000, placing it alongside models like the Porsche Taycan and Panamera.
Beyond performance, the Z9GT emphasizes advanced vehicle dynamics. Rear-wheel steering enables complex maneuvers, including lateral movement and tight turns in confined spaces. Inside, the car features a digital cockpit with large displays and premium materials, reinforcing its focus on technology-driven luxury.
Alongside it, DENZA introduced the D9 DM-i, a large seven-seat plug-in hybrid MPV. Designed for versatility, it combines practicality with premium comfort. The model offers up to 210 km of electric range and a total range of up to 950 km. Pricing begins at around €80,000, targeting both family and executive transport needs.
A key part of DENZA’s strategy is its FLASH Charging technology. The system supports charging power of up to 1500 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 70% in about five minutes and near-full charging in under ten minutes. These figures are confirmed in BYD’s official materials and form a central pillar of the brand’s positioning.
The company is also preparing a broad European rollout. By the end of 2026, DENZA plans to operate in more than 30 European countries with over 150 retail locations. Initial markets include Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK, with specific retail locations already identified in Germany.
This move carries broader implications for the market. DENZA is not entering the mass segment but targeting premium territory traditionally dominated by European brands. Backed by BYD’s engineering scale, battery technology, and fast-charging capabilities, the brand aims to establish a strong foothold from the outset.
Further expansion is already anticipated. In addition to the Z9GT and D9, more models — including a premium SUV — are expected to follow, indicating a long-term strategy rather than a one-off launch.
Overall, DENZA’s European debut represents a structured attempt by BYD to move into the upper tier of the market. With a mix of performance, advanced technology, and aggressive expansion plans, the brand is positioning itself as a new contender in the premium EV space.
