Inside the all-new electric GLC: MB.OS and seamless MBUX Hyperscreen

Mercedes-Benz presents the all-electric GLC with MB.OS and a pillar-to-pillar MBUX Hyperscreen with matrix backlight and zone dimming. Premiere at IAA 2025.
Mercedes-Benz is opening a new chapter for the GLC. On 7 September at IAA Mobility in Munich, the brand will unveil the fully electric GLC with EQ Technology—the first series-production Mercedes-Benz to showcase the next phase of the Sensual Purity design language. The exterior previews the brand’s new face with a reinterpreted iconic grille, while the cabin aims to feel like “Welcome home.”
The centrepiece is the seamless MBUX Hyperscreen. Measuring 99.3 cm (39.1 inches), it is the largest display ever fitted to a Mercedes-Benz. It uses a matrix backlight with more than a thousand individual LEDs and intelligent zone dimming that allows two display areas to be adjusted simultaneously via sliders. The setup improves the legibility of key information and reduces distraction; Mercedes-Benz says a patent has been filed. Visually, the screen appears to float from pillar to pillar, forming a single digital surface.
The physical design supports the same idea. A sculptural trim piece unites the instrument panel and centre console, with a band of ambient lighting along the lower edge. Depending on options, there are up to two trays for inductive and rapid smartphone charging, a new hard-key strip (including the hazard warning button), separated cupholders and galvanised air vents. Climate changes are briefly confirmed by a colour pulse in the ambient lighting, providing clear visual feedback.
High-resolution atmospheric styles turn the displays into part of the overall lighting scene. Their palettes—from calm to intense, cool to warm—are coordinated with the instrument cluster, controls and ambient lighting. All of this runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), underscoring the blend of physical and digital spheres.
Official pricing and market launch timing have not been announced. Trade publications point to early 2026, but Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed this. The electric GLC will enter a competitive field of premium midsize electric SUVs, frequently benchmarked against the next-generation BMW iX3, the Audi Q6 e-tron and the electric Porsche Macan. With MB.OS geared for regular over-the-air updates and expandable digital services, software experience may become the key battleground.
Model-specific environmental metrics for the electric GLC have not been published at this time. What is clear from pre-release material is the focus on thoughtful ergonomics, expressive lighting and a large-format display—Mercedes-Benz’s bid to redefine a homelike cabin. Briefly beyond Stuttgart: on 7 September, actor and racer Patrick Dempsey will host the world premiere of Porsche’s new top 911 model, with public showing from 9 September at IAA Mobility in Munich.
