Tesla has presented a limited Plaid Signature series for Model S and Model X, marking the end of production for its flagship models after more than a decade.

Tesla is closing the chapter on its longest-running flagship models with a final limited run of just 350 Model S and Model X Plaid Signature vehicles, effectively marking the end of an era for the brand.

The series is strictly capped at 250 Model S sedans and 100 Model X SUVs, available only by invitation. Pricing is significantly higher than standard versions, reinforcing their status as collector items. The cars stand out through exclusive design details: a new Garnet Red exterior, gold Tesla and Plaid badges, white interior trim with contrast stitching, and individual numbering for each unit.

Technically, these remain Tesla’s most powerful production cars. The Plaid versions feature a tri-motor setup delivering around 1020 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in about 2.1 seconds while maintaining a range of roughly 600 km. Each model also receives distinct hardware: the Model S gets carbon-ceramic brakes, while the Model X is equipped with 22-inch wheels.

This release reflects a broader shift in Tesla’s business. In recent years, Model S and Model X have accounted for a small share of total deliveries, with the bulk of sales driven by the more affordable Model 3 and Model Y. In Tesla’s reporting, these flagships are grouped into the “other models” category, which is significantly smaller in volume.

At the same time, Tesla is redirecting its focus. Official materials emphasize expansion into autonomy, robotaxi services, and robotics, including the Optimus humanoid project. Production capacity previously used for Model S and Model X is being repositioned as part of this transition.

In this context, the Plaid Signature series serves a dual purpose. It concludes the lifecycle of models that helped define the modern premium EV segment and earned Tesla major industry recognition. At the same time, it highlights a clear shift away from high-end niche flagships toward scalable technologies and new product directions.
