Chinese automaker BYD is making waves in the electric vehicle market, posting record-breaking sales figures in February 2025. The company sold 322,846 vehicles, marking a 165% increase year-over-year. Of these, 318,233 were passenger cars, while the remaining units were commercial vehicles.
However, the most striking achievement was the remarkable surge in overseas sales. BYD exported 67,025 vehicles, a 188% jump compared to February 2024. This marks the third consecutive month of record-breaking international sales, underlining the company's growing dominance beyond China’s borders.
To put things into perspective, BYD is significantly outpacing its domestic rivals. While Tesla’s February sales in China remain undisclosed, XPeng reported 30,453 deliveries (up 570%), Li Auto sold 26,263 units, and Nio shipped 13,192. BYD’s commanding lead over these competitors reinforces its status as China’s top EV manufacturer.
The company’s aggressive international expansion strategy is fueling its growth. BYD opened its first factory in Thailand last year and is now planning to launch production facilities in Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Hungary, Turkey, and Pakistan. At the same time, the automaker is pushing technological boundaries—every BYD model, including the $9,500 Seagull, will come equipped with the God’s Eye autonomous driving system at no extra cost.
With record-breaking sales momentum, bold global expansion, and cutting-edge innovations, BYD is positioning itself as a true global EV leader. If the current trajectory continues, the company is well on its way to reshaping the future of the electric vehicle industry in 2025 and beyond.
