MINI x Vagabund present two unique Countryman show cars
MINI and Austrian studio Vagabund present two one-off Countryman show cars with integrated sound systems and festival-inspired design. Discover the concept.
Two unique MINI Countryman models have been transformed into full mobile stages, with external sound systems built directly into the body and a concept that turns the car into part of music culture rather than just transportation.
MINI, together with Austrian design studio Vagabund, has presented two one-off show cars, each existing as a single unit. The project is built around the idea of combining adventure, community, and festival lifestyle. The result goes beyond a design reinterpretation of a crossover — these vehicles function as tools for collective experience, both visual and acoustic.
The defining feature is a sound system integrated into the vehicle structure. The rear side windows have been removed and replaced with specially developed modules designed for outdoor audio projection. At the core are speaker housings made from polymer granite, a material known for reducing vibration and supporting precise sound reproduction. Tweeters and mid-range speakers are embedded into the bodywork, while additional subwoofers are located at the rear and become active when the tailgate is opened. Each car operates as an independent system, but together they create a unified sound stage.
The two vehicles differ not only technically but visually. One is finished in Melting Silver with sand and white graphic accents, while the other appears in Midnight Black with a monochrome, technical aesthetic. The contrast is intentional — the concept is designed to be fully experienced when both vehicles are presented as a pair.
Structural modifications reinforce the concept. Reworked wheel arches create a wider stance, increased ride height emphasizes off-road capability, and 20-inch wheels with closed 3D covers visually reference loudspeakers. The roof rack, made of laser-cut aluminium panels and mesh, echoes the design language of speaker grilles, linking the audio concept with the overall exterior design.
An additional detail is the integrated Walkman, creating a counterpoint to the external sound system. It introduces a more personal, slower listening experience, contrasting with the collective audio output of the vehicles. This element connects directly to the history of mobile music listening shaped by early portable audio devices.
The choice of MINI Countryman as the base is deliberate. As the largest model in the MINI lineup, designed for active lifestyles and available with ALL4 all-wheel drive, it provides the versatility needed for both off-road use and transformation into a mobile cultural platform.
The project continues MINI’s long-standing focus on individualisation. The brand has consistently positioned the car as a personal statement, and here that idea is pushed further through collaboration with a design studio and the creation of non-production, one-of-one vehicles.
One of the two cars will be shown publicly for the first time at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, one of the largest automotive exhibitions globally. After its debut, the vehicles are expected to be presented in live formats across different platforms, reinforcing the project’s core idea: the car as a point of connection for people, sound, and shared experiences.
