Volkswagen unveils the ID. CROSS Concept at IAA Mobility 2025, a compact electric SUV on the MEB+ platform with 420 km range, production debut set for summer 2026.

Volkswagen took a major step toward affordable electric mobility by unveiling the ID. CROSS Concept at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. The compact electric SUV is almost production-ready and joins Volkswagen’s family of four new small EVs, alongside the ID.2all, ID. GTI Concept, and ID. EVERY1. The production version of the ID. CROSS is scheduled for summer 2026.

The concept introduces Volkswagen’s new “Pure Positive” design philosophy. Head of Design Andreas Mindt describes it as built on three pillars — stability, likeability, and a hint of “secret sauce.” These elements are visible in the car’s clear surfaces, strong proportions, and light graphics that create a smiling appearance. Subtle nods to Volkswagen icons like the Golf and the VW Bus connect the design to the brand’s heritage.

Technically, the concept is based on the updated MEB+ platform, which includes improvements to batteries, motors, and software. Volkswagen confirms that a further developed version of Travel Assist will be included. The concept’s front-wheel-drive powertrain delivers 155 kW (211 PS) and allows up to 420 km of WLTP range, with a top speed of 175 km/h.

In terms of size, the ID. CROSS is close to today’s T-Cross: 4,161 mm long, 1,839 mm wide, 1,588 mm tall, and with a 2,601 mm wheelbase. Despite its compact exterior, it offers a spacious cabin with 450 liters of luggage space plus a 25-liter front trunk. The model also supports towing up to 1,200 kg (braked) and a drawbar load of 75 kg, enough for two e-bikes.

The interior aims to be a “feel-good oasis.” Warm Vanilla Chai tones, preconfigured light, sound, and climate “atmospheres,” plant motifs, and floating design elements create a lounge-like setting. The seats can fold completely flat, providing a space reminiscent of the VW Bus.

Volkswagen has not yet disclosed the price or trim levels. Media reports estimate a starting price between €28,000 and €30,000, placing the model in competition with the Renault Megane E-Tech, Peugeot e-2008, and other compact electric SUVs. Exact battery capacity, chemistry, and charging details remain undisclosed, as do production plant locations. The focus remains on Europe as the primary launch market.

With the ID. CROSS, Volkswagen signals its intent to make electric mobility widely accessible. While key details like price and production will be revealed closer to launch, the concept already shows a balance of style, practicality, and technology that aims to appeal to a broad audience when the production model arrives in 2026.
