Opel reports Corsa as Germany’s top small car in Q1 2026, with strong growth and over 11,660 registrations. Explore key figures, electric version, and upcoming GSE.

Opel Corsa has held its lead in Germany for more than five years—and in the first quarter of 2026 it confirmed that status again, posting nearly 23% growth with over 11,660 registrations in just three months.

The model ranked first in the small car segment in January, February and March, reinforcing a pattern Opel has maintained over recent years. Corsa had already secured the top spot in its class for the full year 2024 and continued to lead during key periods of 2025, building a consistent trajectory of demand.

This performance matters beyond the model itself, strengthening Opel’s position in its home market. Germany’s small car segment remains highly competitive, traditionally dominated by rivals such as the Volkswagen Polo. Even so, Corsa repeatedly regains and sustains the lead, as confirmed by registration data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).

One reason behind this success is the wide range of powertrains. The Corsa lineup includes petrol engines, hybrid variants and a fully electric version. The electric model, delivering 115 kW (156 hp) with a 51 kWh battery, offers a range of up to 429 kilometres (WLTP). Fast charging enables up to 80% capacity in under 30 minutes, positioning the car competitively in both traditional and electric segments.

Special editions also help maintain interest. The Corsa YES stands out with bold exterior colours, a contrasting roof, digital displays and enhanced standard equipment. In Germany, pricing starts from around €24,340, keeping the model accessible within the mass market.

Opel is already preparing the next step. The new Corsa GSE, a fully electric performance version, is currently undergoing final testing, including chassis and handling refinement. Its public debut is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, with production expected to follow later in the year.

The model’s history adds further context. Since its debut in 1982, more than 14 million Corsas have been sold worldwide. The current generation, introduced in 2019, has already surpassed one million units produced. These figures underline that the model’s success is not a short-term surge, but the result of sustained demand and continuous development.
