Hyundai reveals 2027 IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink SUV

Hyundai has introduced one of the most powerful and technologically advanced three-row electric SUVs in its lineup — the IONIQ 9 AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink delivers 422 hp and supports ultra-fast charging from 10% to 80% in about 24 minutes. The new variant represents the top tier of the IONIQ 9 range and highlights the brand’s push into the premium electric SUV segment.

The Black Ink version stands out primarily through its redefined visual identity. The exterior adopts a fully blacked-out design language, featuring black chrome elements, gloss black accents, darkened emblems, and exclusive 21-inch wheels. Inside, the theme continues with an all-black cabin, aluminum trim, and eco-suede materials derived from corn-based fibers, reinforcing a consistent and restrained aesthetic.

This addition goes beyond a simple trim update and strengthens the model’s positioning. The IONIQ 9 already competes with large electric SUVs such as the Kia EV9, Volvo EX90, and Rivian R1S. With the Black Ink variant, Hyundai signals a stronger focus on design-led and higher-end segments. At the same time, the core specifications remain a key advantage: a 110.3-kWh battery enables a driving range of up to 335 miles (EPA), surpassing some competitors in the segment.

The model continues to use Hyundai’s E-GMP platform with an 800-volt architecture, enabling rapid charging and efficient packaging. This supports a full three-row layout for six passengers, with comfort-focused features such as first- and second-row relaxation seats, ventilation, and heated third-row seating.

Technology further reinforces the premium positioning. The cabin includes a head-up display, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, a digital rearview mirror, remote smart parking assist, and Vehicle-to-Load functionality. The inclusion of a native NACS port provides access to an expanding charging infrastructure in the United States.

Production of the new variant will take place at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia, a major investment project exceeding $7.5 billion with a planned capacity of up to 500,000 vehicles annually. This ties the model closely to the growing U.S. electric vehicle market.

The IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink is scheduled to reach dealerships in summer 2026. While the technical foundation remains unchanged, the model enhances its visual and premium appeal, strengthening Hyundai’s position in the large electric SUV segment.
