Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package runs a record 9.083-second quarter mile at Sydney Dragway, reaching 156.61 mph and showcasing electric performance.

Porsche has once again proven that an electric car can be the ultimate performance machine. At Sydney Dragway, the new Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package completed the quarter mile in 9.083 seconds, reaching 156.61 mph (252.04 km/h) — a result described by Australian media as the fastest ever for an unmodified production car on the country’s drag strip.

The run took place during the popular Wednesday Night Drag Meet, an event usually dominated by heavily modified V8s and purpose-built dragsters. This time, the silent Porsche stole the spotlight, showing that instant torque and seamless acceleration can be just as thrilling as the roar of an engine.

The Taycan Turbo GT is Porsche’s most powerful road-going model. In Launch Control, it produces up to 760 kW, with two-second bursts peaking at 815 kW. The Weissach package sheds weight, adds aggressive aerodynamics, and features a fixed carbon rear wing generating up to 220 kg of downforce. The result is brutal performance: 0–100 km/h in just 2.2 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h.

By exceeding 150 mph, the Taycan technically breached IHRA rules that require a parachute above this speed threshold — a testament to just how extreme this run was for a showroom car. It lined up on a strip where such speeds are rarely achieved without extensive modification.

Media reaction was swift. CarExpert detailed the record-setting evening and called the Taycan the quickest “showroom car” ever to run on an Australian drag strip. In the U.S., MotorTrend has previously clocked a 9.23-second quarter mile in the same model, further validating its capability as a straight-line powerhouse.

Porsche views such events as more than just headline moments. They are part of a broader narrative: proving that electrification can enhance, not diminish, the thrill of performance. With record-breaking laps at Nürburgring, Laguna Seca, and beyond, Porsche is shaping a future where electric performance remains exciting — and judging by its strategy, this kind of showcase will continue to define the brand’s image for years to come.
