20 Years of Bugatti Veyron Celebrated in Molsheim

Bugatti honors 20 years of Veyron in Molsheim with Le Petit Tour Alsace, historic venues, and a grand festival, celebrating the legacy of the iconic hypercar.

Molsheim became the stage for a remarkable celebration marking 20 years of the Bugatti Veyron — the hypercar that reshaped what was considered possible in automotive engineering. The anniversary coincided with Bugatti’s 116th year and the birthday of its founder Ettore Bugatti, adding an extra layer of significance to the festivities.

The centerpiece of the weekend was Le Petit Tour Alsace, a spirited drive through the Vosges and the scenic villages of Alsace. The Veyron convoy departed from Château Saint-Jean, the historic home of Bugatti since Ettore acquired it in 1928 to welcome his clients. Today, the château continues to serve as the brand’s symbolic residence and venue for exclusive events.

The route led participants to the 12th-century Château de Haut-Barr — the “Eye of Alsace” — and onward to the elegant Villa René Lalique. Built in 1920 by renowned glassmaker René Lalique, the villa embodies the artistic bond between Lalique and the Bugatti family, a connection celebrated through works such as crystal interpretations of Rembrandt Bugatti’s Dancing Elephant.

The evening program included a refined banquet in the Orangerie of Château Saint-Jean and a three-act operatic performance by Opéra de Strasbourg. The production honored Professor Ferdinand Piëch, whose audacious vision in the late 1990s demanded a car with over 1,000 PS, capable of surpassing 400 km/h, yet comfortable enough to drive to the opera.

The festivities culminated with the Veyron parade through the heart of Molsheim during the Bugatti Festival, the sound of W16 engines reverberating through the cobbled streets. Far from being just a nostalgic look back, the celebration highlighted how the Veyron project became a technological moonshot and shaped the modern hypercar era. Auction results in recent years confirm that collector demand remains strong, with prices ranging from $1.2 to over $3 million, and rare editions like the Grand Sport Vitesse setting new benchmarks. The Veyron continues to stand as both a technical milestone and a coveted collector’s treasure.
