Lexus has filed a trademark for the name "LFR," hinting at a successor to the legendary LFA. Expected to feature a twin-turbo V8 hybrid, the model may debut in 2026. Learn more about its specs and potential release.

Lexus is gearing up for a grand return to the world of supercars. A recent trademark application for the name "LFR" in the European Union has sparked speculation that the Japanese premium brand is working on a successor to the legendary LFA. More than a decade after its release, the LFA remains one of Lexus’ most iconic creations, setting high expectations for its potential successor.

According to preliminary information, the Lexus LFR will be based on the Electrified Sport concept, initially introduced as a vision of the brand’s electrified future. However, unlike the fully electric prototype, the production LFR is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain. Reports suggest that under the hood will be a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 producing around 700 horsepower. With such a powerful engine combined with Lexus’ cutting-edge technology, the new model could become a formidable contender in the supercar segment.

Additionally, there are rumors of LFR making its mark in motorsports. Lexus is reportedly positioning the model as a replacement for the current RC F GT3 race car. The racing variant of the LFR is expected to make its debut at the 2026 24 Hours of Daytona, with a road-going version following shortly after.

Pricing will also be a crucial factor. Early estimates suggest a starting price of around 30 million yen (approximately $190,000). If these figures hold true, the LFR will be significantly more accessible than its predecessor, which was strictly limited to just 500 units.

Lexus has not yet provided any official statements regarding the LFR, and there is currently no information about the model on the company’s official channels. However, the emergence of patent filings, industry rumors, and growing speculation indicate that the project is well underway. The wait may be long, but it seems poised to be well worth it.
