BMW marks 14th year as title partner of the Berlin Marathon with the first race outing of the all-electric BMW iX3, highlighting Neue Klasse technology and sustainability.

Berlin is gearing up for one of the year’s biggest sporting festivals — the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. This weekend, around 80,000 participants from more than 160 countries will take to the streets, from amateur runners to world-class elites, as well as handbikers and inline skaters. The marathon has long symbolized joy, openness, and intercultural exchange, and this year it becomes the stage for an important premiere — the first “race deployment” of the all-electric BMW iX3.

The choice of this event is no coincidence. As Christian Ach, Head of BMW Deutschland, explained, the marathon is the perfect setting to highlight endurance and precision — values that define the Neue Klasse. The BMW iX3 50 xDrive delivers 345 kW of power from its dual-motor setup, sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds, and offers up to 805 km of WLTP range. Thanks to 800-volt charging technology, it can gain around 372 km of range in just ten minutes, pointing toward a new benchmark for long-distance electric travel.

The Neue Klasse represents far more than just another BMW model line — it marks the dawn of a new era. It introduces sixth-generation eDrive technology, a completely reworked electronics and software architecture, and four high-performance “superbrain” computers to process data and driving dynamics. The Heart of Joy system ensures precise handling, while the Panoramic iDrive with its wide Panoramic Vision projection turns the driving interface into a cinematic experience.

The marathon will serve as a live proving ground for demonstrating how an electric vehicle performs under sustained load. A total of 65 BMW vehicles will be deployed along the course, including the iX, i5, i4, iX2, and iX1 models, as well as ten BMW motorcycles and four e-scooters. The fleet is almost fully electrified, dramatically cutting local CO₂ emissions and contributing to a quieter, cleaner race atmosphere.

Organizers emphasize that sustainability is central to the event’s philosophy. In 2024, 94% of the official vehicle fleet was already electrified, and participants received free public transport tickets to reduce the event’s overall carbon footprint. Together, these measures make the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON a showcase for how mass sporting events can successfully combine tradition, technological progress, and climate responsibility.
