Geely has revealed its G-Pilot system, a five-tier autonomous driving technology for Geely Auto, Galaxy, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr. Learn how it compares to Tesla Autopilot and GM Super Cruise.

Chinese automotive giant Geely has unveiled G-Pilot, its latest autonomous driving system, set to be integrated into vehicles from Geely Auto, Galaxy, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr. The first model featuring this technology will be the Galaxy E8 electric sedan, with a starting price of 149,800 yuan (approximately $20,550).

G-Pilot introduces a five-tier autonomous driving system, allowing drivers to adjust the level of automation based on road conditions. This modular approach ensures flexibility and accessibility across different vehicle categories.

Geely’s system enters direct competition with major autonomous driving technologies like Tesla Autopilot and GM Super Cruise. However, their operational principles differ: while Tesla relies on dynamic machine learning and GM on pre-mapped roads, Geely focuses on multi-sensor integration to enhance environmental perception accuracy.

Geely has been progressively developing its autonomous driving technology through a phased strategy:

G-Pilot 1.0 (2015) – introduction of basic driver assistance features (adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning).

G-Pilot 2.0 (2018) – improvement of sensor accuracy and addition of intelligent cruise control and automatic parking.

G-Pilot 3.0 (in development) – planned implementation of automatic lane-changing and self-parking without driver intervention.

G-Pilot 4.0 (future goal) – full autonomy with integration into urban mobility networks.

There is no official timeline yet for the release of G-Pilot 3.0 and 4.0 in mass-produced models. However, Geely’s ambitions signal a strong push toward global leadership in autonomous driving innovation.
