Kia Unveils EV4: A New Electric Sedan and Hatchback on the E-GMP Platform
Kia has unveiled the first official images of its new EV4 electric vehicle, which will be available in two body styles: a sleek sedan and a practical hatchback. Both versions retain the design cues of the concept first showcased in October 2023, now refined for mass production.
A full-scale presentation of the model is scheduled for February 27, 2025, during Kia EV Day in Spain. However, key details about the upcoming EV4 have already been revealed. The vehicle is built on the E-GMP platform, featuring a 400-volt architecture. This differs from Kia’s premium models, such as the EV6 and EV9, which use an 800-volt system for ultra-fast charging. Nevertheless, the EV4 is expected to remain competitive within its segment.
Preliminary specifications suggest that the EV4 will come with two battery options: 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh, offering a maximum WLTP-rated range of up to 560 km (approximately 350 miles). The base version will likely feature a single electric motor with around 200 hp, while higher trims could offer all-wheel drive with dual motors.
Interestingly, production of the EV4 will take place at Kia’s upgraded plant in Gwangju, South Korea. Following a recent modernization, the facility is set to produce up to 150,000 electric vehicles per year. Kia has announced plans to manufacture approximately 70,000 units of the EV4 annually.
From a market perspective, the EV4 is expected to compete directly with the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. However, Kia is likely aiming for a more affordable price point, making the EV4 an attractive option for buyers looking to switch to an EV without the premium brand price tag.
While official images of the interior have yet to be released, it is anticipated that the EV4 will feature Kia’s latest infotainment system, including dual 12.3-inch screens and the ccNC interface. Additional features may include fast-charging support, advanced driver assistance systems, and multiple interior trim options.
More details on specifications, pricing, and trim levels will be available closer to the official launch. However, one thing is clear: the Kia EV4 is an ambitious move by the company to expand its footprint in the mass-market EV segment, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape.
