Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team reaches 99% HVO100 use across 2025 European season logistics

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team achieves 99% biofuel coverage for 2025 European logistics and completes first all-electric transport to Dutch Grand Prix, highlighting progress toward Net Zero goals
The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team continues its steady progress toward carbon neutrality, turning Formula 1 logistics into a real-world testbed for sustainability. In 2025, the team reached almost full deployment of HVO100 biofuel, with 99% of all European transport—both race and marketing trucks—powered by this fuel.
HVO100, a second-generation hydrotreated vegetable oil, cuts lifecycle emissions by 81% compared with conventional diesel and requires no engine modifications. Since the project’s launch in 2022, the team has avoided more than 1,190 t of CO₂ equivalent. The program’s expansion has been made possible through continued collaboration with PETRONAS and the team’s logistics partners.
Another milestone came in the summer of 2025 when the team used a fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 to deliver its W16 race cars from Brackley to Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix—covering roughly 673 kilometers with one rapid-charging stop. According to Mercedes-Benz Trucks, the eActros 600 can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to a diesel equivalent.
Alice Ashpitel, Head of Sustainability at Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, emphasized that every kilometer driven on biofuel or electricity brings the team closer to its goals—Net Zero for Race Team Control by 2030 and full carbon neutrality across all scopes by 2040.
Across the wider Formula 1 landscape, DHL’s fleet already operates on HVO100, achieving around 83% emission reductions, while the network of fueling stations offering HVO100 across Germany and neighboring countries continues to expand rapidly, easing the logistical groundwork for such initiatives.
For Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS, this progress represents more than a technological showcase—it demonstrates how motorsport innovation can accelerate the shift toward cleaner transportation far beyond the racetrack.
