New Mercedes-Benz Classic Engine Oils developed with FUCHS

Mercedes-Benz presents Classic Engine Oils in 10W-40 and 20W-50 grades, created with FUCHS to protect vintage engines from corrosion and wear in long-term preservation.
Mercedes-Benz is expanding its product range for classic car owners with the introduction of special engine oils designed specifically for older engines. The new Mercedes-Benz Classic Engine Oils come in two viscosity grades — 10W-40 and 20W-50 — providing reliable protection even during long periods of inactivity.
Developed in cooperation with FUCHS LUBRICANTS GERMANY, one of the leading lubricant manufacturers, the project took more than eighteen months of research and extensive testing. The formulation ensures excellent corrosion resistance and material compatibility with the bearing alloys and seals typical of classic Mercedes-Benz engines.
The 10W-40 version targets vehicles built from 1971 onwards, including models such as the SL (107, 129), S-Class (116, 126, 140, 220), E-Class (123, 124, 210, 211), C-Class (201–204) and CLK (208, 209). It offers smooth cold starts and reduced friction, features particularly important for cars still in regular use.
The more viscous 20W-50 oil is tailored to older generations from the 1950s onward. It contains additives that effectively protect non-ferrous metals and vintage sealing materials. Each formulation underwent dedicated tests confirming its compatibility with historical engine components.
According to Alexandra Suss, Head of Spare Parts Business, Archive & Collection at Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH, these new oils not only ensure long-term engine preservation but are also used in the company’s own vehicle collection — the largest in the world, with more than 1,100 exhibits.
The products are initially available in Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria and Switzerland, through authorized Mercedes-Benz Classic Partners and dealers. In Germany, the 10W-40 one-liter canister is priced at €19.98, while the 20W-50 version costs €24.98.
The launch of these dedicated oils highlights Mercedes-Benz’s ongoing commitment to supporting its heritage vehicles. Although the company does not disclose the precise composition of the formula, its focus on material compatibility and corrosion protection demonstrates a clear intent to safeguard the brand’s automotive legacy for decades to come.
