Alfa Romeo recalls 62,910 Giulia and Stelvio models from 2019–2025 due to a rear camera defect violating FMVSS 111; free repairs begin November 25, 2025.

Less than a month after its previous recall, Alfa Romeo is facing another setback. The company is recalling 62,910 Giulia and Stelvio vehicles produced between August 2019 and March 2025 due to a rearview system malfunction that violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, which governs rear visibility requirements.

The problem runs deeper than a simple malfunction. An internal Stellantis investigation launched on May 14, 2025, revealed defects in the radio module supplied by Marelli, which controls the rear camera system. Some units showed holes in the circuit board, while others had software glitches that caused black, reversed, or blank images. In all cases, the visibility behind the car could not be guaranteed, posing a potential crash risk.

After completing its analysis on September 25, Stellantis began preparing for the recall campaign. Starting October 14, owners can check their VIN numbers on the NHTSA website, while notification letters will be mailed from November 25, 2025. The company confirmed that diagnostics, software updates, or full radio replacements will be provided free of charge at authorized Alfa Romeo dealerships.

This marks the brand’s second major recall in just two months. In September, Alfa Romeo withdrew over 53,000 vehicles due to a defective fuel pump supplied by Germany’s Vitesco Technologies. The back-to-back technical issues raise questions about the brand’s quality control and long-term reliability, particularly as U.S. sales continue to fall.

According to CarFigures data, Alfa Romeo’s U.S. sales peaked at around 23,800 vehicles in 2018 but declined to roughly 3,900 units in 2024. The latest recall could further strain the brand’s position in the competitive market for sporty sedans and crossovers.
