Toyota Unveils Turbo Trail Cruiser at SEMA 2025 with i-FORCE V6
Toyota presents the Turbo Trail Cruiser at SEMA 2025, merging the heritage of the Land Cruiser FJ60 with modern i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 power and precision engineering.
At the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Toyota revealed the Turbo Trail Cruiser — a bridge between the brand’s past and future. This concept merges the soul of the classic Land Cruiser FJ60 with the advanced i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 engine found in today’s Tundra.
The 3.4-liter V6 delivers 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque — nearly twice the output of the FJ60’s original inline-six. But for the Toyota Motorsports Garage team, led by Marty Schwerter, the project was never just about power. It was about integrating modern engineering without compromising the authenticity of a legend.
What makes the Turbo Trail Cruiser remarkable is its precision of fit. The engine was installed without altering the body structure. Engineers designed new mounts, a custom adapter plate to link the V6 to the stock five-speed transmission, and a reworked oil pan to suit the ladder frame. A dedicated heat exchanger improves cooling, while a custom wiring harness connects the engine to the vehicle’s management system with factory-grade refinement.
Visually, the FJ60 retains its timeless identity — a modest 1.5-inch lift, 35-inch tires, and a PPG recreation of Toyota’s 1986 Silver paint. Inside, a modern JBL stereo system adds subtle comfort to the vintage cabin.
According to Mike Tripp, Toyota’s group vice president of marketing, the Turbo Trail Cruiser is about more than horsepower. It celebrates how Toyota’s technology can preserve and elevate heritage. It’s a concept that speaks to enthusiasts who believe innovation and nostalgia can coexist under one hood.
Beyond its mechanical appeal, the project also echoes Toyota’s multi-pathway approach — a philosophy that values diversity in powertrains, from gasoline to hybrid and hydrogen. The Turbo Trail Cruiser shows that traditional engineering still has a vibrant role to play in Toyota’s evolving vision of mobility.
