BMW iX3 leads Neue Klasse debut and highlights Japan Mobility Show 2025
BMW Group showcases the new iX3, its first Neue Klasse model, along with the MINI Paul Smith Edition, M2 CS, and Concept Speedtop at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
At the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo, BMW Group presented a series of striking world and Asian premieres that marked the company’s next technological chapter. The main highlight was the Asian debut of the BMW iX3, the first model of the new Neue Klasse generation. This fully electric SUV embodies BMW’s shift to sixth-generation eDrive technology, an 800-volt system and cylindrical battery cells. With a WLTP range of up to 805 km and a charging rate of 400 kW, the iX3 showcases a major leap forward. In just ten minutes, it can add around 370 km of range, while its four “superbrains” computing units make it a genuinely software-defined vehicle.
The Neue Klasse represents BMW’s reimagined approach to mobility — from the Panoramic iDrive interface with Panoramic Vision to a zonal electronic architecture that reduces weight and enhances intelligence. Production of the iX3 will start at the Debrecen plant in late October 2025, with Japanese sales planned for 2026.
Other premieres shared the spotlight at BMW’s Tokyo stand. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen, co-developed with Toyota, confirmed the company’s commitment to powertrain diversity, with series production scheduled for 2028. For sports car fans, the special-edition BMW M2 CS made its Japanese debut, delivering 530 hp and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
MINI continued its creative partnership with British designer Paul Smith by unveiling the new MINI Paul Smith Edition. While details of the interior and production volume remain undisclosed, the edition captures the brand’s enduring balance between individuality and heritage through Smith’s signature “classic with a twist” aesthetic.
The BMW Concept Speedtop added a touch of handcrafted exclusivity to the showcase. This elegant shooting brake, limited to just 70 units, combines the most powerful BMW V8 engine with refined craftsmanship, echoing the spirit of its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
Visitors also experienced AirConsole in-car gaming, which brings well-known titles such as UNO® Car Party! and PAC-MAN™ Championship Edition directly to the vehicle, with players using their smartphones as controllers.
Altogether, the Japan Mobility Show 2025 revealed more than a product lineup — it reflected BMW Group’s evolving technological vision, blending engineering tradition with digital transformation, where the car becomes a dynamic part of a connected ecosystem.
