MINI Paul Smith Edition debuts with timeless British design

The new MINI Paul Smith Edition, unveiled at Japan Mobility Show 2025, blends classic British craftsmanship with modern elegance across the Cooper range.

Sir Paul Smith and MINI have once again shown how tradition and innovation can coexist within a single project. At the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo, the new MINI Paul Smith Edition made its world debut, marking the next step in a partnership that began back in 1998. That first collaboration introduced Smith’s trademark “classic with a twist” design to the iconic Mini, and now the same spirit returns across the modern Cooper range — the 3-door, 5-door and Convertible models, with John Cooper Works remaining the only exception.

This new edition blends British design sensibility with the meticulous attention to detail for which both brands are known. The exterior offers three colour options — Statement Grey, Inspired White and Midnight Black Metallic — each referencing tones from historic Mini models. Accents in Nottingham Green, named after Smith’s hometown, highlight the mirrors, octagonal grille, wheel caps and one of the roof variants.

Inside, the atmosphere is equally refined: knitted dashboard textures, fabrics inspired by Paul Smith’s textiles and colourful stitching details. Subtle touches such as the light-projected “Hello” greeting and the door sill motto “Every day is a new beginning” reflect the optimism and individuality shared by both brands.

The collaboration between MINI and Paul Smith has evolved far beyond one-off projects. In 1998 came a limited run of 1,800 cars, followed in 1999 by a special one-off adorned with 86 colourful stripes. Later concepts such as the MINI STRIP and MINI Recharged explored minimalism and the electrification of classic models. The new edition continues that narrative, bridging British heritage with modern sophistication.

A capsule collection of bags inspired by the MINI Paul Smith Edition has been announced but not yet revealed. Once again, the exchange of ideas flows both ways: MINI reinterprets the essence of British style, while Paul Smith turns automotive icons into design statements for everyday life.
