McLaren F1 chassis 009, the only new Australian-delivered car, returns for sale after MSO service with full factory accessories and two-owner history.

A rare McLaren F1 chassis #009 has resurfaced on the market, sparking strong interest among collectors. Finished in Magnesium Silver, it is the eighth of just 64 road-going examples and the only new F1 ever delivered to Australia.

The story begins in 1994, when the car was purchased by Dean Wills, then CEO of Coca-Cola Amatil. A few years later, it was damaged during a test drive by a mechanic in Sydney and sent back to Woking for repairs. McLaren restored the car and slightly darkened its original silver shade during the process.

After that, chassis 009 spent nearly two decades in the hands of Australian collector Barry Fitzgerald before returning to the UK in 2025. It is now offered for sale by dealer Tom Hartley Jnr, showing only 16,900 kilometers and having had just two owners from new.

Before the sale, the car underwent a major service at McLaren Special Operations, where the same specialists who helped build the F1 continue to maintain it. It comes with its full complement of original accessories, including the leather-bound owner’s manual, Facom tool set, factory luggage, and a limited-edition copy of Driving Ambition.

In 2024, this very car earned both the People’s Choice and Next Gen awards at the Noosa Concours d’Elegance, emphasizing its pristine condition and historical importance. While the price remains undisclosed and available only on request, comparable F1s without accident history have fetched around $20 million. The value of chassis 009 may differ slightly due to its past crash, yet its heritage and rarity make it an exceptional piece of automotive history.

The McLaren F1 still holds the record as the fastest naturally aspirated production car ever built — 240.1 mph — a reminder of why this 1990s icon remains the benchmark of pure engineering brilliance.
