Hyundai presents the CRATER Concept with teaser sketches before its AutoMobility LA 2025 debut, outlining its off-road design direction and key details.

Hyundai has unveiled the first teaser sketches of the new CRATER Concept, a compact off-road show vehicle designed for extreme environments and the spirit of exploration. The global debut is scheduled for November 20, 2025, during a press conference at AutoMobility LA, after which the model will be displayed for the public at the Los Angeles Auto Show from November 21 to 30.

The company is revealing only the general outline of the project for now, sharing images that highlight the exterior character of the upcoming vehicle. The sketches show a focus on durability and attitude: short overhangs, oversized wheel arches, bold proportions, and distinctive lighting elements together create the appearance of a machine ready for demanding landscapes. The closed-off front section also draws attention and suggests a possible electrified setup, although Hyundai has not released any technical details.

The concept was developed at Hyundai America Technical Center (HATCI) in Irvine, California. Designers drew inspiration from rugged natural environments and aimed to capture the same spirit that defines Hyundai’s XRT production models, including the IONIQ 5 XRT, SANTA CRUZ XRT, and PALISADE XRT PRO. These vehicles serve as the brand’s reference points for toughness and adventure-oriented design.

Industry observers note that the CRATER Concept may indicate Hyundai’s broader ambitions in the off-road segment. However, the company has not announced any production plans, emphasizing that the vehicle remains a design exploration rather than a confirmed future model. As a result, it is still unclear whether the CRATER will eventually become part of Hyundai’s lineup.

Even so, the concept has generated considerable interest. Its expedition-inspired design language, bold stance, and strong connection to the expanding XRT family make the CRATER Concept a standout presence at AutoMobility LA 2025, even in the teaser stage.
