Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Breaks Interlagos Lap Record, Surpassing Petrol Rivals

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package has set a new lap record for electric vehicles at Interlagos, driven by Felipe Nasr. Discover how this EV outpaced even the 911 Turbo S.
Electric cars continue to rewrite motorsport history. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package has set a new lap record for electric vehicles at the iconic Interlagos circuit in Brazil. Behind the wheel was Felipe Nasr, a three-time IMSA champion and winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona. His lap time of 1:42.1 minutes not only slashed nearly eight seconds off the previous Taycan Turbo S (2022) record, but also beat the 911 Turbo S, the fastest production petrol car on this track until now.
Records across four continents

This milestone marks the fourth consecutive record for the Taycan Turbo GT, following victories at the Nürburgring (7:07.55 min.), Shanghai International Circuit (2:11.28 min.), and Laguna Seca (1:27.87 min.). Porsche continues to prove that electric performance is not only on par with petrol-powered supercars but, in some cases, even superior.
What makes the Taycan Turbo GT so fast?

The car features a new silicon carbide inverter, increasing motor efficiency, and its peak power exceeds 1,100 PS. The Attack Mode provides an additional 120 kW boost for 10 seconds—a function inspired by Formula E race cars. The aerodynamics have been enhanced, weight has been reduced by 75 kg, and the Weissach package version removes the rear seats for an even better power-to-weight ratio.

After setting the record, Nasr praised the car’s precise steering and stability under braking. He described its acceleration as "brutal" and noted that on the exit of "Curva do Sol," he was already reaching over 200 km/h. British racing driver David Pittard, who tested the Taycan Turbo GT on the Nürburgring, also highlighted its balance and incredible grip.
While Porsche has not officially announced future record attempts, the Taycan Turbo GT is making its presence felt in motorsports. It is already serving as a safety car in Formula E, and a team of enthusiasts previously set a Cannonball Run record, crossing the U.S. in 39 hours and 29 minutes in a Taycan. With such ambitions, more record-breaking achievements from Porsche’s electric hyper-sedan seem inevitable.
