Mercedes-Benz is rolling out a wide-ranging MBUX 3.3 over-the-air update that noticeably expands what drivers and passengers can do in the car, from entertainment to day-to-day productivity. According to the company, the update targets more than 700,000 vehicles worldwide and is available for models equipped with third-generation MBUX, including the GLC, C-Class, CLE and E-Class. As with many software rollouts, the exact feature set can vary by market and by a vehicle’s configuration.

The headline change lands in entertainment. The MBUX system adds Amazon Music and Audible apps, while Dolby Atmos spatial audio becomes available for Amazon Music, Audible and TIDAL. The point isn’t simply louder or cleaner playback, but a more immersive presentation where compatible content gains a distinct sense of depth and placement. Mercedes-Benz also underlines a hardware requirement in German materials: Dolby Atmos with Amazon Music is available in vehicles fitted with a Burmester 3D or 4D Surround sound system.

Video gets an upgrade, too. Selected titles on RIDEVU by Sony Pictures are now delivered in IMAX Enhanced, paired with DTS:X immersive audio. In practical terms, Mercedes-Benz is pushing the cabin closer to a cinematic experience, leaning on premium formats and mastering pipelines rather than novelty features. It also fits a broader premium-car trend: as interface quality and subscription ecosystems become battlegrounds, in-car media can function as a major differentiator.

Productivity is the other big pillar. A new MBUX Calendar replaces the former In-Car Calendar, aiming for faster updates and less friction. The company’s promise is straightforward: a unified login for Notes and Calendar, with Meetings to follow. The app can automatically work out navigation to upcoming appointments, and Microsoft Teams calls can be launched directly from the calendar. There’s also a voice layer: drivers can ask for a briefing or an overview of the day without needing to focus on the display.

Finally, the MBUX Voice Assistant gains additional commands for adjusting vehicle settings. It may sound incremental, but it often changes the feel of the system: the more everyday actions move to voice, the fewer moments drivers need to reach for the screen.

Taken together, the update signals a clear direction. Mercedes-Benz is tuning its in-car software so the vehicle can act as both an entertainment hub and a more capable workspace. And because it arrives OTA, it reinforces the idea of the car as a device that can grow more functional over time—while still depending on market availability and individual vehicle specifications.
