Volkswagen continues its push towards making electric commercial vehicles more accessible, expanding its ID. Buzz Cargo lineup with a new entry-level model—the ID. Buzz Cargo Commerce 59 kWh. This latest addition is designed to bring cost-effective, all-electric mobility to UK fleet operators, offering a balanced combination of affordability, practicality, and efficiency for urban transport and logistics.
A key feature of this model is its 59-kWh battery, providing a driving range of up to 200 miles (321 km)—an ideal fit for everyday commercial use, especially in urban environments. When it comes to recharging, the 165-kW DC fast-charging capability enables a 5% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes, allowing businesses to keep operations running with minimal downtime. Additionally, 11-kW AC charging supports overnight replenishment at depots or home locations.
Despite its compact dimensions, the 3.9m³ cargo area is spacious enough to accommodate two Euro pallets, while the van’s 692-kg payload and 1,000-kg towing capacity make it a competitive choice among electric commercial vehicles in its segment.
The ID. Buzz Cargo Commerce 59 kWh is well-equipped with standard features such as Volkswagen’s Ready 2 Discover infotainment system, featuring a 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB-C ports, parking sensors, a heated driver’s seat, and LED headlights. This level of equipment enhances both convenience and user experience, making daily operations more seamless.
One of the standout advantages for potential owners comes from Volkswagen’s partnership with OVO Energy. Customers can benefit from home charging at just 7 pence per kWh, regardless of the time of day. Additionally, Volkswagen is offering up to 30,000 miles (48,280 km) of free charging, spread over three years, significantly lowering operational costs.
With the introduction of the ID. Buzz Cargo Commerce 59 kWh, Volkswagen strengthens its presence in the electric commercial vehicle market, offering a solution that is not only environmentally friendly but also financially appealing for businesses. It remains to be seen how the UK market will embrace this new addition and which companies will be the first to transition to this electric van.
