BMW has started production of the updated iX at its Dingolfing plant. The new model features up to 701 km range, 25% more power, and sportier design. Learn more about the latest advancements.

BMW has officially started production of the updated iX electric SUV at its Dingolfing plant in Germany. Since its launch in 2021, the iX has sold over 130,000 units worldwide, and now it returns with significant improvements in performance, efficiency, and driving range.

The biggest upgrade? A longer range. BMW states that the iX xDrive60 can now travel up to 701 km (WLTP) on a single charge, making it the longest-range electric model in BMW’s lineup. Additionally, maximum power has increased by 25%, ensuring a driving experience that meets the expectations of the premium market.

The design has also seen updates. For the first time, the iX is available with the M Sport and M Sport Pro packages, giving the SUV a more aggressive and performance-oriented aesthetic. BMW has also expanded the exterior color range, introducing Arctic Race Blue, Dune Grey, Carbon Black, Frozen Deep Grey, Frozen Pure Grey, Tanzanite Blue, and Space Silver.

Production of the new iX takes place at BMW’s Dingolfing plant, a key facility in the company’s electrification strategy. Alongside the iX, the plant also manufactures the BMW i7 and the electric versions of the 5 Series (Sedan and Touring), complementing its range of plug-in hybrids.

According to plant manager Christoph Schröder, the launch of the iX in 2021 marked a major milestone, ushering in the era of fully electric manufacturing at the facility. Now, with this updated model, the plant is pushing forward towards a greener and more high-tech future.

Dingolfing is also leading the way in sustainability initiatives—by 2025, about 50% of its hot water will be sourced from local biomass and recycled wood waste. The plant has also integrated automated driving within its production lines to enhance efficiency and logistics.

The updated iX is a crucial model for BMW as it prepares for the upcoming Neue Klasse platform, which promises revolutionary efficiency, power, and sustainability innovations. BMW is already expanding its electric lineup, aiming for at least 50% of its global sales to be EVs by 2030.

With these advancements, BMW is proving that premium electric mobility is no longer a distant future—it’s already here. And the updated iX is a shining example of that vision.
