MG Motor UK has announced the MG S5 EV, an electric SUV built on the MSP platform. With up to 525 km range and advanced tech, it is set to launch globally in 2025. Learn more about its specs and features.

MG Motor UK has officially confirmed the upcoming spring debut of its latest electric SUV, the MG S5 EV. This new model is set to expand the brand’s EV lineup, delivering a spacious interior, cutting-edge technology, and a competitive price.

Built on the modular MSP platform, which underpins the successful MG4 hatchback, the S5 EV promises a dynamic driving experience, excellent handling, and a high level of comfort. The vehicle will be offered with two battery options: 49.1 kWh and 62.2 kWh, providing a range from 425 km to 525 km (based on the CLTC cycle).

Under the hood, the MG S5 EV is equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 125 kW (170 hp) and 250 Nm of torque. This allows for 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 8 seconds, making it one of the more dynamic options in its class.

The interior reflects MG’s push toward modernity, with a tech-focused design. The S5 EV features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, both supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Some trims will also offer ventilated leather seats with heating and a panoramic sunroof for a more spacious feel.

Safety has been a priority in the S5 EV, as the model comes with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), featuring adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and tire pressure monitoring.

Early reports indicate that the MG S5 EV will be a global model. It was first launched in China in late 2024, and its arrival in Europe, Australia, and India is expected throughout 2025. In Europe, the S5 EV is likely to replace the MG ZS EV, which is currently one of MG’s key electric offerings.

With its technical specifications, feature set, and expected price positioning, the MG S5 EV is set to compete with models like the BYD Atto 3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. Whether it will replicate the success of the MG4 and ZS EV remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—MG is continuing its aggressive push into the affordable EV market.
