Peugeot has unveiled an upgraded plug-in hybrid powertrain for the 308, 308 SW, and 408, offering up to 49 miles of electric range. Discover new specs, efficiency gains, and pricing details.

Peugeot continues its push towards electrification by enhancing the capabilities of its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) lineup. The latest versions of the 308, 308 SW, and 408 models feature an upgraded hybrid powertrain that delivers up to 49 miles (79 km) of pure electric range. This not only improves environmental efficiency but also makes these models even more appealing to corporate buyers due to tax benefits.

At the core of this new system is a revised 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 125 hp (92 kW) electric motor. The Peugeot 408 PHEV boasts a total power output of 225 hp (165 kW), while the 308 and 308 SW variants produce 195 hp (144 kW). All models come equipped with the latest e-DSC7 seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which integrates the electric motor for smoother hybrid operation.

The key highlight of this upgrade is the improved electric range. The 408 PHEV can now travel up to 48 miles (77 km) solely on electric power, while the 308 and 308 SW models reach up to 49 miles (79 km). This significantly reduces CO₂ emissions, starting as low as 18g/km, aligning with stringent European environmental regulations.

Corporate buyers benefit as well, thanks to a reduced Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rate of just 9%. This translates to monthly savings of between £28 and £60 for the 408, and £24 to £55 for the 308 and 308 SW.

Peugeot has also addressed charging efficiency. The new 17.2 kWh battery (with a usable capacity of 14.6 kWh) can be fully charged in 4 hours 20 minutes with a standard 3.7 kW charger or just over 2 hours with the optional 7.4 kW charger.

Sales are just around the corner. The Peugeot 308 PHEV starts at £38,110, with the 308 SW priced from £39,310, while the 408 PHEV is available from £41,500. Orders for the 308 and 308 SW open on February 27, with 408 orders following in March. First deliveries are expected in the spring.

With these updates, Peugeot is positioning itself as a key player in the transition to electrified mobility. Will these enhanced PHEV models lead the market in their segment? Time will tell.
