BMW M Launches In-Car Apps and Expands My BMW App
BMW M announced new in-car apps and My BMW app enhancements, expanding its digital ecosystem for M models and the BMW iX3 with M Sport. Details.
BMW M is expanding its digital ecosystem, placing greater emphasis not only on vehicle performance but also on the digital experience of its customers. The company has introduced a set of new in-car applications alongside enhancements to the My BMW app, reinforcing its strategy of integrating digital services into the BMW M ownership experience.
At the core of the update are three new BMW M in-car apps: M Cockpit, M Drag Meter, and M Channel. All three applications are accessible via the central display and are included as part of the BMW Digital Premium subscription. The new BMW iX3 with M Sport Package and M Sport Package Pro is the first model to feature this digital offering, with further BMW M models running BMW Operating System X set to follow.
The M Cockpit app focuses on delivering detailed, real-time vehicle data. It provides insights into driving dynamics, chassis behaviour, powertrain performance, and geodata, all presented through configurable digital dashboards. Drivers can personalise up to five different layouts, tailoring the information to their individual driving preferences.
With M Drag Meter, BMW M introduces a performance measurement tool designed primarily for use on drag strips. Using GPS-supported data, the app records acceleration, deceleration, reaction times, and distance values. Gamification elements and customisation options allow drivers to monitor multiple performance metrics simultaneously, turning technical measurements into an interactive experience.
The third application, M Channel, adds an entertainment layer to the BMW M digital environment. It offers on-demand BMW M video content, including how-to guides, brand stories, motorsport features, and information about BMW M programmes such as the BMW Driving Academy. The app is designed for use during charging sessions or breaks, expanding the in-car experience beyond driving itself.
Beyond the vehicle, BMW M is also strengthening its mobile ecosystem. The integration of the BMW M Community into the My BMW app marks a significant step, initially available in Germany. Owners of BMW M High Performance and M Performance vehicles from model year 2014 onwards can access exclusive content, special events, selected partner offers, and connect with other members of the M community.
The community integration is closely linked to the GEN M brand platform, which serves as an emotional home for enthusiasts who identify with motorsport and high-performance driving. This move highlights BMW M’s intention to build lasting relationships with its audience through digital platforms and shared experiences.
Taken together, the new BMW M in-car apps and the expanded My BMW app underline a broader shift towards deeper digital integration within the brand. As BMW Operating System X and BMW Digital Premium continue to roll out, digital features are likely to become an increasingly central part of the BMW M proposition, complementing the brand’s traditional focus on performance and engineering.
