Camden to Get 570 Flush-Fitted EV Charging Stations by 2026

London's Camden Council partners with Trojan Energy to install 570 sidewalk-integrated EV chargers by 2026. Learn how this initiative supports sustainable transport.

Residents of Camden, London, who lack private parking will soon have a seamless way to charge their electric vehicles right on the street. The Camden Council has partnered with Scottish company Trojan Energy to install 570 innovative charging stations that blend into the pavement, avoiding street clutter.

The rollout will begin in July 2025, with an initial batch of 70 chargers, and full deployment is expected by 2026. Funding for the project comes from the UK government's On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), which has supported the installation of residential EV charging points across the country.

Trojan Energy’s 22-kilowatt charging stations sit flush with the sidewalk and require drivers to connect using a personal adapter. The chargers are linked via underground cables to a nearby power cabinet, ensuring a discreet and space-efficient solution. The units will be installed in clusters, making them more accessible to EV users.

This initiative is not just about making life easier for EV owners—it’s also designed to support car-sharing programs, potentially reducing private vehicle ownership and cutting urban air pollution. Camden officials see it as a key step toward a cleaner, more efficient city.

By integrating innovative charging infrastructure without disrupting public spaces, London is moving closer to a more sustainable and accessible transport system.
