Mazda Leads 2025 IIHS Rankings with Record Eight TOP SAFETY PICK+ Awards

Mazda earns eight 2025 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, leading the industry in vehicle safety. See which models excelled in the latest crash tests and safety evaluations.
Mazda has once again set the bar high, earning eight 2025 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards—more than any other automaker this year. This achievement underscores the brand’s strong commitment to safety and engineering excellence.
The honored lineup includes the Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, the CX-30, CX-50 (including the hybrid version), CX-70, CX-70 PHEV, as well as the flagship CX-90 and CX-90 PHEV. Each of these models excelled in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s most rigorous crash tests to date, including the newly upgraded moderate overlap front test focusing on rear passenger protection.
Rear seat safety emerged as a major challenge in 2025, with IIHS introducing stricter evaluation criteria. Mazda addressed this by integrating rear seatbelt pretensioners, load limiters, and advanced airbags as standard across the board, helping all tested models secure the highest rating of "Good."
Pedestrian crash prevention, especially in varying lighting conditions, was another critical evaluation area. Mazda’s i-Activsense technology was designed to enhance pedestrian safety, reinforcing the brand’s holistic approach to crash avoidance.
Headlight performance also came under stricter scrutiny. Only models equipped with acceptable or good-rated headlights as standard were eligible for the award. Mazda ensured compliance, making high-quality lighting a standard feature on its winning vehicles.
IIHS President David Harkey acknowledged the role of automakers in advancing safety standards, noting that Mazda had successfully met the institute’s demanding criteria with eight TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners—more than any other brand.
Mazda’s progress in safety has been consistent. In 2024, the company secured eight TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, further strengthening its reputation in vehicle safety. This aligns with Mazda’s broader mission—the pursuit of zero traffic fatalities.
Pricing across the awarded models reflects Mazda’s balanced approach to safety and affordability. For example, the Mazda3 Sedan starts at $24,150, the CX-50 at $30,300, and the CX-70 PHEV at $54,400. All models are now available at Mazda dealerships nationwide.
With advanced technologies like G-Vectoring Control and Kinematic Posture Control enhancing both safety and driving pleasure, Mazda continues to position itself as a leader in thoughtful, human-centered automotive design. If current trends persist, the company is well-positioned to maintain or even expand its leadership in the years ahead.
