Hyundai Motor Group Tops 2025 IIHS Top Safety Pick Ratings
Hyundai Motor Group earned the most 2025 IIHS Top Safety Pick and Pick+ awards, reflecting strong results under tougher IIHS safety testing standards.
Hyundai Motor Group has once again reinforced its position as one of the global leaders in vehicle safety. In the 2025 evaluations conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Group earned a total of 21 TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, the highest number among all automotive groups for the second consecutive year.
Notably, 18 of the 21 recognized models achieved the top-tier TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating. This marks a clear increase compared with the previous year and highlights the ability of Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia vehicles to meet the more demanding IIHS criteria introduced for 2025. These updated standards place greater emphasis not only on front-seat protection, but also on the safety of second-row occupants, an area that has gained increased attention in recent crash-test protocols.
Within the Group, Hyundai Motor Company led the results with ten awarded models, including eight that received the highest TSP+ rating. Genesis secured six awards, five of them TSP+, while Kia earned five TOP SAFETY PICK+ recognitions. All awards apply exclusively to U.S.-specification vehicles.
Among the standout performers were the Group’s flagship electric SUVs. The 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 and the 2025–26 Kia EV9 delivered good ratings across all applicable IIHS crashworthiness and crash-avoidance tests. These outcomes underscore the strength of the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which underpins several of the awarded electric models and incorporates reinforced battery mounting and enhanced side-impact protection.
For 2025, IIHS significantly raised its safety requirements. The updated moderate overlap front crash test now includes a rear-seat dummy representing more vulnerable occupants, such as children or smaller adults. To qualify for TOP SAFETY PICK+, vehicles must earn good ratings in all key front and side crash tests, demonstrate effective pedestrian crash prevention, and be equipped with adequately rated headlights as standard.
Hyundai Motor Group’s ability to consistently meet these tougher benchmarks has allowed it to maintain its leading position in the IIHS rankings. As regulators and consumers place growing emphasis on real-world occupant protection, particularly for rear-seat passengers, the Group’s 2025 results may serve as a reference point for future developments in automotive safety technology.
