South Korea has just opened its largest outdoor EV fast-charging hub at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Goyang, marking a significant step in the city’s green infrastructure development.

The new charging complex was built by Water, the EV charging network brand of Brite Energy Partners, a South Korean renewable energy infrastructure company backed by BlackRock. The hub features 46 fast chargers, including eight 200 kW and thirty-eight 100 kW stations, designed to accommodate not only electric cars but also buses and trucks.

A distinctive wooden canopy, a signature design of Water, covers the site. This eco-friendly structure reduces the carbon footprint compared to steel or concrete and makes the station easy to spot. There are no height restrictions at the hub, allowing easy access for larger vehicles.

KINTEX was chosen as the location due to its high traffic—around 5.8 million visitors annually—and its nearly 7,000 parking spaces. South Korean regulations require that at least 5% of parking spots at large public venues be allocated for EV charging. This new hub exceeds those requirements, which is crucial as KINTEX continues to expand, temporarily closing some parking areas.

According to the company, the new hub eliminates the hassle of finding multiple charging stations and provides a one-stop fast-charging experience. Even during peak hours, wait times are expected to remain minimal.

This project is part of Water’s broader initiative to enhance Goyang’s green mobility. Last year, the company was selected to install 107 chargers across 14 locations in the city, with the entire network expected to be operational by the end of March.
