Tesla recalls 46,096 Cybertrucks in the US due to cantrail trim detaching while driving. Repairs begin March 21, 2025. Learn details of the safety issue.

Tesla has announced a recall of all Cybertruck units produced and delivered in the US due to a serious issue with the vehicle’s exterior trim. The cantrail — a decorative panel running along the truck's roofline — risks detaching while driving, posing a hazard to other road users.

The recall affects all 2024 and 2025 model year Cybertrucks manufactured between November 2023 and February 2025. In total, 46,096 vehicles are involved. According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a failure at the adhesive joint bonding the stainless-steel panel to the vehicle structure. Under certain conditions, the joint may fail, causing the panel to separate.

Tesla’s fix involves replacing the entire cantrail assembly with an upgraded version featuring improved adhesive and an additional welded stud secured with a nut. Repairs are expected to begin on or around March 21, 2025.

This isn’t the first time Tesla has faced trim-related recalls on the Cybertruck. Earlier, issues with the accelerator pedal and windshield wipers triggered similar actions. In 2024, the company also recalled units due to inverter malfunctions that could result in sudden power loss while driving.

Analysts report that by the end of last year, approximately 39,000 Cybertrucks had been sold in the US — far below Tesla’s initial projections. Weaker sales even forced the automaker to adjust pricing.

So far, Tesla executives, including CEO Elon Musk, have remained silent on the recall. However, the situation once again raises questions about the Cybertruck’s complex design, originally pitched as a revolutionary product built on an exoskeleton. The eventual shift toward a more conventional body structure appears to have brought new engineering challenges for the company.
