BMW Art Car World Tour 2025 starts in Vienna, showcasing iconic cars by Lichtenstein, Warhol, and more. Explore the fusion of art and motorsport globally.

The BMW Art Car World Tour has officially begun in Vienna, marking the 50th anniversary of the iconic collection of art cars. The launch event gathered five legendary vehicles at the Museum of Applied Arts and the SPARK Art Fair from March 20 to 23. Visitors were treated to masterpieces by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, and Jeff Koons.

The anniversary tour spans five continents and features an impressive list of venues. Upcoming stops include Art Basel in Hong Kong (March 28–30), Art Dubai, the Shanghai Auto Show, Stockholm’s Market Art Fair, and the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. The grand finale awaits in Munich, where the collection will remain on display until early 2026.

A major highlight is the latest 20th BMW Art Car — the BMW M Hybrid V8 designed by renowned artist Julie Mehretu. Her abstract composition wraps the racing car’s body, transforming it into a "performative painting." This striking new addition to the collection will begin its journey across Asia, including a stop at Art Basel in Hong Kong.

The collection’s story began in 1975 with Alexander Calder’s BMW 3.0 CSL. Since then, the project has attracted art world titans such as Frank Stella, Ernst Fuchs, Jenny Holzer, and Cao Fei. Each vehicle reflects the cultural and historical context of its time, becoming a moving piece of art.

During the Vienna event, BMW also presented its Neue Klasse and Neue Klasse X concept vehicles — a glimpse into the brand’s future. Featuring a fully electric architecture, groundbreaking digital interfaces, and a fresh design language, these concepts set the tone for the next generation of BMW vehicles.

Half a century of BMW Art Cars symbolizes more than just cars as canvases. It represents an ongoing dialogue between art, technology, and society. The anniversary world tour reaffirms the collection’s status as one of the most remarkable projects at the intersection of motorsport and art.
