Pascal Wehrlein Joins Porsche Penske Motorsport for 2025 Le Mans Debut

Pascal Wehrlein will debut at the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans with Porsche Penske Motorsport, racing the Porsche 963 alongside Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy.
Pascal Wehrlein is set to make his debut at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans behind the wheel of the Porsche 963 hybrid prototype. The reigning Formula E World Champion from Germany joins the Porsche Penske Motorsport squad, completing the driver trio alongside experienced endurance racers Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy.
For Wehrlein, this marks a significant milestone in his career. While he has already tested the Porsche 963 and competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona, Le Mans presents a new and formidable challenge. Adapting to the unique demands of endurance racing—where car setup, strategy, and driving duties are shared—will be crucial on the Circuit de la Sarthe.
His teammates bring a wealth of experience. Felipe Nasr is a three-time IMSA champion, while Nick Tandy famously secured an overall Le Mans victory for Porsche in 2015. Their expertise will be instrumental in supporting Wehrlein during his first outing at the endurance classic.
According to Vice President of Porsche Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach, Wehrlein made a strong impression during testing and at Daytona, making it a logical decision to include him in the Le Mans lineup.
This year's Hypercar class promises fierce competition, with 21 entries from eight manufacturers, including Ferrari, Toyota, BMW, and Aston Martin. Porsche fields three factory crews and one customer entry, Proton Competition, underlining its commitment to victory.
Preparation has been meticulous. Porsche Penske Motorsport even built a full-scale replica of the Le Mans pit lane in Mannheim to rehearse pit stops and driver changes. Their recent one-two triumph at the 12 Hours of Sebring showcases the team's strength and precision—an encouraging sign ahead of Le Mans.
Also joining the field is Wehrlein's Formula E teammate António Félix da Costa, who is making his seventh Le Mans start. The Portuguese driver, a 2022 LMP2 class winner, is eager to repeat that success this year.
For Porsche, Le Mans is not just another race but a chance to extend its historic dominance. With 19 overall victories—the most in the event’s storied history—the German manufacturer remains a formidable force. And judging by their preparation and determination, they have every intention of adding another chapter to that legacy.
