BMW and MINI Explore Future Mobility with "Vibrant Transitions" in Milan

BMW Group presents "Vibrant Transitions" at Salone del Mobile 2025, showcasing personalisation, design, and future mobility through BMW Panoramic iDrive, BMW X3, and MINI CE 02.
At the upcoming Milan Design Week, BMW Group will unveil its large-scale installation titled “Vibrant Transitions”. From April 8 to 13, 2025, visitors to the historic Palazzo Borromeo d'Adda will experience immersive design worlds created by BMW and MINI, exploring the themes of personalisation and the future of design.
At the heart of the exhibition lies the idea of openness and individualisation — key pillars shaping the company’s modern approach to mobility. As Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, explains, “Colours, materials, light, sound, geometry and digital experiences merge to create emotionally rich customer experiences.”
The installation itself turns spatial transitions into an artistic statement. Visitors can choose their own route through interactive zones highlighted by vivid colours, light, and translucent lamella structures. This design explores contrasts — between the brands, between the physical and digital worlds, and between day and night.
Three main exhibits stand out. The first is the revolutionary BMW Panoramic iDrive system, projecting information onto the windscreen and delivering an intuitive user experience. The second is the BMW X3 “Designer’s Choice” in the elegant Frozen Tanzanite Blue, with luxurious interior detailing that reflects the potential of materials and colours to express individuality. The third is the fully electric BMW CE 02 by MINI Design — a sleek urban scooter capable of reaching 95 km/h and offering around 100 km of range, embodying a fresh approach to electric mobility.
An open-air space, the MINI Neon Garden City, invites visitors to explore the future of cities and sustainable mobility. Here, the MINI Cooper Electric and the BMW CE 02 stand side by side, showcasing MINI’s signature attention to detail — from unique colour accents to carefully selected textiles.
The project was developed by the BMW Group Design team in collaboration with Designworks, the company’s global creative consultancy. Their combined expertise, technological know-how, and creative vision shaped this unique installation that reflects the growing trend of blending the analogue and digital realms.
BMW’s presence at Salone del Mobile is no coincidence. As one of the world’s most important design events, the 2025 edition is expected to gather over 2,000 exhibitors from 37 countries. The integration of automotive brands into the art and design space highlights an evolving trend — the boundaries between transportation design and everyday objects are becoming increasingly blurred. And judging by BMW’s latest showcase, this direction is set to strengthen in the coming years.
