Xiaomi SU7 Achieves Top Safety Rating in China’s Crash Tests

Xiaomi SU7 earns 5 stars and the highest 2024 C-NCAP score, surpassing rivals like Tesla Model 3. Strong safety, tech features, and growing global ambitions.
The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan is solidifying its place in the market, proving not only its technological edge but also its impressive safety standards. As the debut model from the Chinese tech giant, the SU7 achieved a record 93.5% score in the 2024 C-NCAP crash tests, achieving the highest safety score among all cars evaluated in China in 2024.
The tests featured the all-wheel-drive Xiaomi SU7 Max, equipped with a Hesai lidar and the advanced Xiaomi Pilot Max driver assistance system powered by dual Nvidia Drive Orin chips delivering 508 TOPS of computing power. The result was a full five-star rating, with an outstanding 95.25% score in the Active Safety category. The SU7 Max also scored 94.31% for occupant protection and 90.42% for pedestrian safety—13% above the average of other tested vehicles.
China’s C-NCAP tests are known for their rigor. The side-impact test, for example, uses a 1,700 kg sled—heavier than Euro NCAP and US standards. Since 2021, China has also introduced dedicated battery safety tests, focusing on the risks EV batteries face during collisions.
Safety isn’t the SU7’s only triumph. Since its March 2024 launch, Xiaomi has sold 186,112 units, with demand still outpacing supply. The waiting period now stretches to 11 months. Remarkably, the SU7 has overtaken the Tesla Model 3 in China, competing directly with strong domestic rivals like the BYD Seagull and XPeng G9.
And Xiaomi is far from finished. The company is preparing to launch its second EV, the YU7 SUV, and has announced plans to enter international markets by 2027.
With the SU7, Xiaomi is turning its bold automotive ambitions into reality, setting a new benchmark in China’s auto industry by balancing cutting-edge technology with real-world safety.
