Edith: Porsche 911’s Historic Volcano Climb Captivates Viewers on Prime Video

Watch Edith: Porsche’s Volcano Ascent, winner of Best Documentary at the 2024 Motor Film Awards. Now streaming on Prime Video in the US, UK, and Germany.
The remarkable story of a Porsche 911’s ascent to the top of the world’s highest volcano is now available to stream on Prime Video in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The documentary, titled “Edith: Porsche’s Volcano Ascent”, chronicles a daring expedition to Ojos del Salado in Chile and the specially modified 911 that made it possible.
Produced by independent studio TangentVector, the film was over four years in the making. It follows a small international team battling altitude, sub-zero temperatures, and near-impossible terrain in pursuit of a historic summit — and they did so on their third attempt. The challenges were immense, but so were the rewards.
The 911, affectionately named Edith, was heavily modified for the mission. Portal axles increased the ground clearance to 350 mm, and a custom-developed "warp connector" enhanced traction across rugged surfaces. The expedition team included experts from Chile, France, Germany, the U.S., Canada, and Switzerland.
Debuting at Monterey Car Week, the film went on to win “Best Documentary Feature” at the 2024 International Motor Film Awards. It is also currently being shown aboard Delta Air Lines flights until spring 2025.
“This project was exactly what you see in the documentary — a small team working desperately hard, recording their fears, their moments of defeat, their sense of belief and ultimately their elation,” said J.F. Musial, co-founder of TangentVector.
The film has resonated with viewers, receiving a 7.4 rating on IMDb. More than a tale of automotive prowess, it is a story of human resolve, engineering creativity, and the relentless drive to go further — both literally and figuratively.
With this project, Porsche reinforces its image as a brand unafraid of limits. Edith is now more than a car — she’s a symbol of perseverance, innovation, and the road less traveled.
