Ford returns to DTM in 2025 with HRT and two Mustang GT3s, led by experienced drivers Arjun Maini and Fabio Scherer. Follow their comeback journey.

For the first time in over 30 years, the iconic American brand Ford is making a comeback to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). In 2025, the Haupt Racing Team (HRT) will field two newly developed Ford Mustang GT3 cars, marking Ford’s first factory-backed return to the series since 1989.

The program is part of an extended partnership with Ford Performance. One of the Mustangs (#36) will be driven by Ford factory driver Arjun Maini, entering his fourth season with HRT. The second car (#64) goes to Swiss driver Fabio Scherer, returning to DTM after a five-year absence and joining the Ford GT3 Junior Driver squad. Between them, Maini and Scherer bring a combined 82 DTM race starts, along with experience from series like Formula 2 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Mustang GT3 has been engineered in collaboration with Multimatic and M-Sport, featuring a 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, a rear-mounted sequential gearbox, and advanced DSSV dampers. Ford enters a highly competitive field, with manufacturers such as Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Lamborghini, and a returning Aston Martin also confirmed for the 2025 season.

The car’s first test is scheduled for April 2 at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben — the same venue that will host the opening round three weeks later. The calendar spans eight race weekends across Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands, concluding at Hockenheim in early October.

RAVENOL joins as a technical and branding partner for HRT this season. Notably, Scherer’s Mustang sports a Ford Heritage livery with two red stripes running across the bodywork — a tribute to the Mustang that raced in DTM back in 1994.

With a proven driver lineup, factory support, and championship-winning experience from 2021, Ford and HRT are setting their sights higher than just participation. Team principal Ulrich Fritz acknowledged that the learning curve with the new car would take time, but emphasized that the ultimate goal is to compete at the front of the field in their comeback season.
