Kia is shifting its EV strategy into overdrive. With full-scale production of the EV6 and EV9 now underway at its West Point, Georgia facility, the South Korean automaker is poised to grow its US electric vehicle sales significantly in 2025.

While Q1 numbers show a dip — 3,373 EV6 units sold (down from 4,059) and 3,756 EV9 units (down from just over 4,000) — Kia is optimistic. Eric Watson, VP of Sales at Kia America, believes local production will play a crucial role in reversing that trend and accelerating adoption.

That optimism is not unfounded. The West Point plant, with an annual capacity of up to 350,000 vehicles, now plays a central role in Kia’s US strategy. It’s being complemented by the massive Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, located in Ellabell, Georgia. This facility is ramping up to produce up to 500,000 EVs and hybrids per year across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands.

Importantly, the domestic production of the EV6 and EV9 now qualifies both models for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit — a key selling point for cost-conscious buyers navigating the competitive EV market.

Looking ahead, Kia plans to introduce the EV4, its first electric sedan aimed squarely at Tesla’s Model 3. Production is expected to start ahead of the 2026 launch, and specs are already confirmed: it will use the E-GMP platform, offer 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh battery options, and deliver up to 560 km (WLTP) of range.

With competitive pricing, expanded US manufacturing, and a clearer path to tax incentives, Kia is tightening its grip on the American EV market. As competition heats up, the company seems well-positioned to turn its early momentum into long-term traction.
