CYVN finalizes McLaren acquisition, merging with EV startup Forseven under McLaren Group Holdings. Aims for global leadership and product expansion.

Abu Dhabi-based investment firm CYVN Holdings has finalized the acquisition of McLaren Automotive and a non-controlling stake in McLaren Racing, marking a new era for the storied British carmaker. The deal gives rise to McLaren Group Holdings, which brings together McLaren Automotive, EV start-up Forseven, and CYVN’s stakes in McLaren Racing and McLaren Licensing.

Leading this new entity is Nick Collins, a seasoned executive with a background at Jaguar Land Rover and most recently CEO of Forseven. The relatively unknown start-up has quietly been building momentum, assembling a team of former Lotus executives and setting ambitious plans in motion within the EV segment. While former McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt plays a key role at Forseven as managing director, he is not credited as its founder.

The merger with Forseven forms part of CYVN’s broader strategy to turn McLaren into a high-performing global brand. Supporting this vision is CYVN’s portfolio of mobility-focused investments, which bring advanced lightweight engineering and electrification capabilities into the fold.

Yet the move is also a response to crisis. In 2023, McLaren posted record losses of £924 million, prompting a concurrent turnaround plan. This effort aims to optimize operations, expand the product portfolio, and reinforce supplier and dealer networks worldwide.

CYVN has already signaled its intent to take McLaren beyond its traditional supercar roots. While specific product plans remain under wraps, analysts anticipate entries into electric vehicles and potentially the SUV segment — a bold attempt to rival Porsche, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini. Market expansion is also a key priority, with particular focus on Asia, including India, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

On the racing front, CYVN reaffirmed its commitment to McLaren Racing. Despite holding only a minority, non-controlling stake, the firm plans to support the team’s quest for podium finishes and continued global fan growth.

The transformation also extends to brand licensing. In 2022, McLaren appointed CAA Brand Management as its global licensing partner to boost the brand’s presence in apparel, gaming, publishing, and media sectors.

By consolidating its UK investments into McLaren Group Holdings, CYVN is betting on the synergy of engineering excellence, strategic partnerships, and brand revitalization to redefine luxury performance on a global stage.
