Volkswagen will produce a new Amarok for South America in Argentina by 2027. The $580M investment supports local production and technology upgrades.

Volkswagen is moving forward with its long-term strategy by investing $580 million in Argentina to produce a new generation of its Amarok pickup truck. Set to launch in 2027, the model will be designed and built specifically for the South American market at the Pacheco plant, marking a major step in the brand’s regional localization efforts.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, noted that regional growth and localisation are essential elements of the company’s global plan. He emphasized that the new Amarok would be developed in South America, for South America, reflecting Volkswagen’s commitment to aligning products with local consumer needs.

The Pacheco plant already has a long history with the Amarok, having produced over 770,000 units since 2009, with approximately 65% exported. This new investment will modernize the facility with advanced production technologies, the introduction of the MQB A platform, a new paint shop, and upgrades aimed at boosting energy efficiency.

Volkswagen’s decision to continue Amarok production in South Africa ensures global availability, while the South American version will be tailored to regional demands. The upcoming model is expected to retain Volkswagen’s brand DNA while incorporating modern software and digital enhancements to meet the expectations of today’s consumers.

Although no official confirmation has been given regarding an electric variant, the company has previously initiated engineering studies for a fully electric Amarok, indicating that electrification is likely a matter of "when," not "if."

This investment also underscores Argentina’s growing role in Volkswagen’s global industrial strategy. Marcellus Puig, President and CEO of Volkswagen Argentina, described the Amarok as a symbol of the brand in Argentina and suggested that the upcoming model will build on this legacy.
