Porsche presents the Cayenne Turbo Electric alongside the historic 917/30 at the F.A.T. Ice Race, highlighting over 1,000 PS, electric performance and brand heritage. Learn more.

At the F.A.T. Ice Race in Zell am See in January 2026, Porsche brings together two machines that define different eras of pushing limits: the legendary 917/30 and the new Cayenne Turbo Electric. Set against snow and ice, their joint appearance is more than a visual contrast. It is a deliberate statement about how far the brand has come, and how its core philosophy has remained unchanged.

In the early 1970s, the Porsche 917/30 represented an uncompromising approach to performance. Built for the Can-Am series, it exceeded 1,000 PS and, depending on its state of tune, could deliver even more. In 1975, Mark Donohue drove a highly boosted 917/30 to a closed-course speed record at Talladega, averaging more than 355 km/h. That achievement secured the car’s place as one of the most extreme racing prototypes ever built.

More than five decades later, Porsche once again speaks the language of four-digit power figures, but this time in a radically different context. The Cayenne Turbo Electric becomes the first production Porsche to cross the 1,000-PS threshold while remaining suitable for everyday use. With peak output of up to 850 kW (1,156 PS), acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 2.5 seconds, and a WLTP range of over 600 kilometres, it redefines what a high-performance SUV can be in the electric era.

The contrast between the two vehicles is clear. The 917/30 was engineered for a single purpose: absolute dominance on the racetrack. The Cayenne Turbo Electric, by contrast, combines performance, comfort and versatility in one package. Advanced thermal and battery management systems are designed to ensure that its performance is not only impressive on paper, but also repeatable and controllable in real-world conditions.

Yet Porsche highlights a clear thread connecting both cars. Innovation, technical ambition and the willingness to challenge established limits define them equally. Their meeting at the F.A.T. Ice Race illustrates how technology has evolved, while the brand’s DNA has remained consistent. In that sense, the Cayenne Turbo Electric does not replace the legacy of icons like the 917/30, but carries it forward into a new chapter.

The appearance of the historic 917 lineage at the event also recalls other experimental icons such as the 917/20 “Pink Pig,” a prototype remembered for its unconventional aerodynamics, distinctive livery and lasting cultural impact beyond its brief racing career.
