Mercedes-Benz presented the updated S-Class at its 2026 world premiere in Stuttgart. Learn what changed in design, technology and driver assistance systems.
On January 29, 2026, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the updated S-Class at its world premiere held at the brand’s museum in Stuttgart. The event, attended by an international audience, marked a key moment for the company’s flagship luxury sedan.
The new S-Class is described by Mercedes-Benz as the most extensive update within a single generation of the model. The car combines long-established comfort with a significant technological step forward, reflecting more than 140 years of engineering heritage.
Exterior changes give the flagship a more distinctive presence. The front end features a redesigned and larger grille, complemented by a new lighting signature with star-shaped design elements. Details such as updated headlamps, optional illuminated projections and a lit hood emblem emphasize both status and modernity.
The technical lineup includes the S500, S580 and the plug-in hybrid S580e. The S580 is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, while the hybrid version combines a combustion engine with an electric motor to deliver higher combined output. All variants are equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The interior remains a defining feature of the model. The updated S-Class introduces the next generation of the MBUX infotainment system based on the new MB.OS architecture, an expanded screen layout and enhanced functions for rear passengers. Digital services, comfort features and the level of customization available through the MANUFAKTUR program have all been further developed.
Driver assistance systems play a central role in the update. The S-Class supports DRIVE PILOT, enabling automated driving at speeds of up to 110 km/h under approved conditions and in selected markets. This underlines the model’s role as a technological benchmark for Mercedes-Benz’s future automated driving solutions.
Sales of the updated S-Class are scheduled for 2026, with market availability, specifications and pricing to be announced closer to the launch in each region.
